We had our first Show and Tells this week. From Facebook Groups to Slack to Coda, it’s been great to see what our 6 charity partners have created so far.

We had our first Show and Tells this week. It was good for everyone to hear what others have been up to. And nice for people to share their progress, experience and any anxieties in a safe community of practice (at least, we hope it’s starting to feel that way)!

Last week, our 6 partner charities starting putting their ideas into practice. This week, they presented their prototypes (aka skateboards). Everyone did brilliantly.

Here’s what our 6 charities have created so far:

Landing page for the ACRE Network Digital Record

ACRE

Building a platform for members to share their digital toolkits

  • Created the “ACRE Network Digital Record”, using Coda. ACRE members can list all the digital apps they’re using and name of their digital lead.
  • Thinking about what to include on a dashboard, eg: Total spend across ACRE network; game changer apps.
  • Setting up user testing for next week.

“The team are coming to me saying “maybe we could do this”? Or “let’s work in OneDrive rather than email” — so, already that’s brilliant!”

— Phil, ACRE

Back Up

Hosting a virtual relatives day so families can support each other online

  • Created a web form so relatives can sign up.
  • Created a resource pack relatives will get before the session
  • Designed the format for the live session
  • Tested how the event will work on MS Teams (required by the spinal unit)
  • Learning how to best to manage the event across a combination of platforms: Zoom, MS Teams, EasyGenerator, Donerfy and Mailchimp.

“We’re trying to get things as streamlined as we possibly can. We’ve four or five different moving parts, including email. We’re using things we’ve already used before as they seem to be working.”

— Alice, Back Up

IMM

Trialling a live music event at local hospital in prep for a national roll-out

  • Agreed with hospital to use Zoom and iPads.
  • Secured donation of 24 iPads from Barclays Digital Eagles.
  • Interviewed school and hospital to ensure they have good understanding of the benefits of music-making.
  • Arranged to have an IMM facilitator and lead consultant on the ward
  • Promoting event as #SpoonfulOfMusic on social media
  • Secured funding for a wider 6 week pilot

Margate Bookie

Creating a digital platform for writers to give and receive feedback

  • Set up a Slack workspace and trial writers’ group
  • Created a mock landing page for the website (see below)
  • Joined Paragraph for inspiration.
  • Looking at integration with Google Docs.

“What I love about Slack is how you can link separate channels. I’m thinking of it as a big, welcoming space you can walk into — with lots of separate rooms coming off it.”

— Kat, Margate Bookie

MEWSo

Sharpening and translating their services page to attract more users

  • Cut the text down to one or two lines per service.
  • Created a new contact form.
  • Created a new version of their logo to work properly in digital graphics
  • Will use Google translate to create version of MEWSo’s service page in Farsi, Arabic, Kurdish and Turkish. Then ask volunteer translators to edit.
WellChild: the dummy Facebook Group we’re using to test features and ideas

WellChild

Improving their Facebook Group so families have a better experience

  • Set up dummy Facebook Group to test features and ideas.
  • Changed the Group type from standard social to parenting. This offers some good features. For example, users can post anonymously.
  • Added links to WellChild guides, eg: Covid-19 information. Posts can be created around these guides. And families can track their progress through the guides to make sure they’ve read everything they need to.

“This week has been great — really promising. This is going to make a massive difference to our members and their experience, which is fab!”

— Chloe, WellChild
